Physical Evidence is a 1989 crime thriller film directed by Michael Crichton. It stars Burt Reynolds alongside Theresa Russell and Ned Beatty. Reynolds plays Joe Paris, a beleaguered ex-police officer, incriminated by the evidence but insisting on his innocence.

Physical Evidence would be Crichton's final film as a director.

Plot

Joe Paris awakens one morning with a splitting headache and blood on his shirt. He was drinking and can't recall the events of the night before.

A murder has been committed and Paris' fingerprints are found. He has a history of violence and is placed under arrest. A public defender, Jenny Hudson, is assigned to defend him. They develop a physical attraction as they set about trying to determine who really committed the crime.

Reception

The film was described by the Chicago Tribune as a "feeble thriller... the worst case of filmmaking-by-numbers, reflecting not an ounce of commitment or conviction".[2] The Los Angeles Times called it "flat and remote... a thriller that doesn't thrill."[3]
