Denes nad Makedonija (Macedonian: Денес Над Македонија, English translation: "Today Over Macedonia") is the national anthem of the Republic of Macedonia. It was composed by Todor Skalovski and the lyrics were written by Vlado Maleski in 1941.[1] It was performed as a popular song of the Macedonians during the time of Socialist Republic of Macedonia, a part of Yugoslavia.[3] Later the song was officially adopted to be the anthem of the independent Macedonia.[2][4]

Official lyrics

The anthem has four stanzas, but the fourth stanza is mainly omitted from the national anthem.

Macedonian Transliteration English Translation

Denes nad Makedonija se raǵa,
novo sonce na slobodata!
Makedoncite se borat,
za svoite pravdini!
Makedoncite se borat,
za svoite pravdini!

Odnovo sega znameto se vee,
na Kruševskata Republika!
Goce Delčev, Pitu Guli,
Dame Gruev, Sandanski!
Goce Delčev, Pitu Guli,
Dame Gruev, Sandanski!

Gorite Makedonski šumno peat,
novi pesni, novi vesnici!
Makedonija slobodna,
slobodno živee!
Makedonija slobodna,
slobodno živee!

Ne plači Makedonijo majko mila,
Kreni glava gordo visoko,
Makedonija slobodna,
slobodna ḱe živee!
Makedonija slobodna,
slobodna ḱe živee!

Today over Macedonia, is being born
the new sun of liberty.
Macedonians are fighting,
fighting for their rights!
Macedonians are fighting,
fighting for their rights!

Now once again the flag stands
(that) of the Kruševo Republic
Gotse Delchev, Pitu Guli
Dame Gruev, Sandanski!
Goce Delchev, Pitu Guli
Dame Gruev, Sandanski!

The Forests of Macedonia are singing
new songs, new messages!
Macedonia is liberated
Lives in liberty!
Macedonia is liberated
Lives in liberty!

Do not cry dear mother Macedonia,
Raise your head proudly high,
Macedonia is free
Free to live!
Macedonia is free
Free to live!
