Excerpt: The authors wish to thank each of the tribes and tribal police departments that participated in this study for their generous help. Without the information they provided, the work would not have been possible. In particular, we wish to thank the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation, the Gila River Indian Community, the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation, and the Tohono O’odham Nation for providing access to their police departments, criminal justice systems, and other governmental units. Knowledge we gained from our time on site formed the core of our research.
